Description

Live Glass Belly Koi Guppies are a striking, rare variety of freshwater guppy known for their unique semi-transparent abdomen. This "glass belly" trait is caused by a lack of guanine crystals, allowing you to see the internal organs and even developing fry in females.

Key Characteristics
  • Transparent Abdomen: The standout feature is a lack of silver pigment (guanine), making the internal organs and eggs/fry clearly visible.
  • Koi Coloration: They typically display the "Koi" pattern, featuring a white or cream body with bright orange or red coloration on the head and tail.
  • High Dorsal/Big Ear: Many high-quality strains also carry traits like "High Dorsal" fins or "Dumbo/Big Ear" pectoral fins.
  • Size: Generally small, with males reaching 3–4 cm and females being slightly larger and rounder.
Water Parameters
  • Temperature: 22°C – 28°C (72°F – 82°F). Stable temperatures are vital to prevent stress.
  • pH Level: 7.0 – 8.0. They prefer slightly alkaline, hard water.
  • Ammonia/Nitrite: Must be kept at 0 ppm. These guppies can be more sensitive to water quality than common varieties.
Care & Maintenance
  • Diet: Feed a high-protein, varied diet. Use high-quality flakes, crushed pellets, and supplemental live or frozen foods like or daphnia to enhance their orange pigments.
  • Tank Setup: A minimum of 20–40 litres is recommended. Use a sponge filter to ensure the water flow is gentle and to keep fry safe from being sucked in.
  • Vegetation: Live plants (like Guppy Grass, Java Moss, or Water Sprite) are essential. They provide cover for fry and help maintain water quality by absorbing nitrates.
