Description
Eriocaulon quinquangulare (commonly called Five-angled Pipewort or Five-angled Hatpins) is a rare and exotic aquatic plant native to tropical Asia. Also known in the aquarium hobby as Eriocaulon sp. Quinquangulare, this plant is highly prized for its unique five-angled stems and striking coloration. Its reddish-maroon base gradually transitions into bright green leaf tips, creating a vibrant contrast in aquascapes.
Reaching a compact height of 2.5–3 inches, it is perfect for foreground placement in aquariums, where it forms a dense and eye-catching cluster. However, this plant is considered challenging to grow and best suited for experienced aquarists.
Care Requirements
- Lighting: Requires high light intensity for healthy, compact growth.
- CO2: Supplemental CO2 injection is essential.
- Substrate: Thrives in nutrient-rich aquasoil, especially ammonia-rich substrates.
- Nutrients: Needs regular dosing of iron, micronutrients, nitrate, and phosphate (never let levels hit zero).
- Growth: Known to be finicky, but with proper conditions, it rewards aquascapers with vibrant color and compact form.
