Live Fish Panda Cory | Single

The Panda Cory possesses a compact, armored body protected by overlapping bone-like plates (scutes) instead of scales. Its body color ranges from an off-white to a pinkish-gold hue, contrasted by three sharp black markings: a mask across the eyes, a patch on the dorsal fin, and a spot at the base of the tail (caudal peduncle). It has a flat belly and a downward-facing mouth equipped with three pairs of sensitive barbels (whiskers) used to forage through substrate for food.

Core Characteristics

• Schooling Nature: They are strictly schooling fish and must be kept in groups of at least 4 to 6 individuals. Single specimens will become timid, stressed, and hide constantly. 
• Substrate Sensitive: They spend almost all their time siftng through the bottom of the tank. A smooth sand substrate is mandatory; sharp gravel will tear their delicate sensory barbels, leading to dangerous bacterial infections. 
• Intestinal Respiration: Like all Corydoras, they possess a unique ability to dart to the surface, swallow a gulp of air, and absorb oxygen through their hindgut. Do not be alarmed if you see this quick vertical darting behavior. 
• Cooler Water Preference: Unlike many tropical fish, Panda Cories originate from meltwater rivers and prefer slightly cooler water than other cory species. Keeping them in water consistently above 78°F (25.5°C) will shorten their lifespan.
