Description

Description

Add a touch of natural elegance to your pond with the stunning Water Mosaic, a rare floating aquatic plant known for its mesmerizing geometric leaf pattern. Its perfectly arranged, diamond-shaped leaves form beautiful circular rosettes that resemble a living mosaic on the water’s surface.

The rosettes gently open to soak up sunlight, and by evening, they subtly close—bringing movement and life to your water garden. During the growing season, delicate yellow flowers bloom at the center, enhancing its ornamental appeal.

Key Characteristics
  • Appearance: Features small, diamond-shaped leaves arranged in a circular "mandala" pattern. The foliage is typically green but develops vibrant red or orange edges when exposed to high light.
  • Flowers: Produces small, cup-shaped yellow flowers that resemble buttercups and typically bloom from June to August.
  • Daily Movement: The rosettes are dynamic, lying flat and fully extended during the day and constricting or "puckering" at night.
  • Growth Habit: While it appears to free-float, it is a rooted hydrophyte that sends long stems from the substrate to the water's surface.

Care and Maintenance

  • Lighting: Requires full sun or very high-intensity artificial light. Insufficient light causes the plant to lose its red hues and grow slowly.
  • Temperature: Thrives in warm tropical water between 22–28°C (72–82°F). It is not winter-hardy and will die if exposed to cold temperatures.
  • pH: Prefers slightly acidic to neutral water (5.5–7.5).
  • Depth: Best suited for water depths between 10–60 cm (4–24 inches).
  • Movement: Prefers still or very slow-moving water.
  • Substrate & Nutrients: Needs a nutrient-rich soil or fine gravel substrate for its roots. Heavy fertilization with macro- and micronutrients is recommended for optimal growth.
  • Propagation: Easily propagated by stem cuttings. Simply snip a healthy rosette with a section of stem and replant it in the substrate.
