Description
Description
The Alien Betta is a specialized hybrid developed by crossbreeding several wild Betta species. The "Grey" variation (often genetically linked to steel blue) is distinct because it lacks metallic genes. This means its coloration remains uniform and does not change depending on the angle of the light, unlike other iridescent variants. They feature small heads, slender, torpedo-shaped bodies, and distinct dark, thick banding across their fins.
Key Features
- Color & Pattern: Uniform grey/steel-blue base color with overlapping scales. Their dorsal, anal, and tail fins proudly display prominent, dark, thick bars.
- Size: Slightly larger than traditional domestic bettas, typically growing to about 2 to 2.5 inches (5 to 6.5 cm) in length.
- Temperament: Highly territorial and aggressive. While females can occasionally be kept in groups with adequate space, males are strictly solitary and must be kept in separate tanks to prevent fatal fighting.
- Hardiness: Derived from wild-type lineages, they are highly active, robust, and relatively adaptable, thriving in water temperatures of 24-28°C and a pH of 6.5-7.5
Key Care Requirements
- Water Parameters: Strict temperature control between 24–28°C and a stable pH of 6.0–7.0.
- Tank Setup: Minimum 20-liter tank with a tight-fitting lid, low-flow filtration, and heavy live plants.
- Diet: High-protein insectivorous diet requiring live or frozen foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp.
- Temperament: High aggression levels; males must live entirely alone, and pairs should only meet briefly for breeding.
